At first, even while taking 20 mg of Cortef every day, my condition didn’t stabilize easily.

There wasn’t much information available in Japanese at the time, so I started by reading patient stories and looking for information on social media. I also joined communities in Europe and North America, learned from people who were managing their condition well, and found out that some people can recover.

In my case, simply taking or increasing Cortef wasn’t enough to stabilize me. I reviewed things one by one, including how my body absorbed and metabolized the medication and how other medicines affected me. I also avoided things that were hard on my body and rebuilt my daily life from the beginning.

About a year and a half after my diagnosis, my morning cortisol level, measured while fasting and before taking any medication, recovered to the normal range. After that, I was able to switch to taking Cortef only when needed.

Even if the baseline cortisol level improves, we still need to be careful with strong stress or infections if the body’s cortisol reserve has not fully recovered. I was also told that the risk of adrenal crisis is not completely gone.

Even so, I have gradually been able to make plans, work, and sleep peacefully. I have slowly been able to build up more normal days.

There wasn’t one dramatic treatment that changed everything. I tried to understand my condition instead of always using extra Cortef to push through everyday symptoms. I compared my test results with how I actually felt and kept making small adjustments. I feel that all of those small changes have helped me get to where I am now.

My goal now is to eventually stop taking Cortef completely.
